I fill my life by finding joy in the simplest of things, like my new tea kettle. Locating a good quality kettle under two quarts was not easy. For more than a year, I tried every store and website I could find and came up empty. A few weeks ago, three kettles that met my criteria appeared on Amazon. I was so happy. I chose a more traditional design over a contemporary one. Every time I look at my new kettle, my heart giggles. I know that will wear off after a while, but for now, it brings me great joy.

Finding joy in the big things is easy–a new job, a wedding, a graduation, a child’s school play. But, one of the keys to a full life is finding joy in the small things as well. This is hardly a new concept. However, we can easily miss the little things, like a new tea kettle, when we are busy or our minds are preoccupied. We are particularly challenged at this time as we deal with the expected and unexpected consequences of a pandemic.

Now, more than ever, we need to slow down, calm our minds, and take time to appreciate the many little gifts and joys in our lives. Take time to meditate, relax in the grass and stare at the clouds, appreciate the people in your life, and find your tea kettle. Pay attention to the little things that make your heart sing and fill your life by finding joy in unexpected places.
